The City Council from time-to-time establishes local advisory boards, committees and commissions by ordinance or resolution. These advisory bodies are responsible for making recommendations on a variety of topics to the City Council for consideration and final determination.
The City Council recognizes there is a vast and largely untapped reservoir of talent that exists among the citizenry and encourages public input and citizen participation. The City Council appoints representatives to various local and countywide advisory boards, committees and commissions (boards and commissions).

THE CITY OF CALISTOGA
NEEDS YOU TO SERVE ON ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC BODIES
Citizen participation in local government plays an important and active role in the City of Calistoga. The City Council is seeking participation from its diverse and widely experienced citizens, and encourages all citizens to apply. We have one opening to fill on each of these very diverse bodies.
The Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) is a City Council appointed Committee that functions in an advisory capacity and shall direct its activities to improve bicycling, walking and other active modes of transportation within the City of Calistoga. The City is seeking applications from Calistoga residents to serve on the Active Transportation Advisory Committee. The appointed representative will fill the remaining term for the unscheduled vacancy. The Council will appoint Four (4) members to this committee. Three terms will end December 31, 2021 and one term will fill an unscheduled vacancy expiring December 31, 2020. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019.The Planning Commission is a five-member decision-making body that reviews and approves a variety of land use applications, including conditional use permits, design review, subdivisions and variances. The Planning Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council on proposed changes to the General Plan, zoning ordinance and other land-use related matters. Planning Commissioners are expected to work cooperatively with residents, business owners, developers and staff in carrying out their duties. Experience or knowledge of architecture, construction, engineering, land use planning or real estate is highly desirable but not required. Planning Commission members must maintain primary residency within the city limits of Calistoga. The Council will appoint three (3) members to this commission to each serve a two-year appointment. The Napa County Mosquito Abatement District organizes and carries out an effective control program, and develops a budget adequate to staff and support programs. Residents interested in serving on the Napa County Mosquito Abatement District may request an application by contacting the City Clerk's office at (707) 942-2805. The term will be for two-years expiring December 31, 2021. Applications are due by Friday, November 22, 2019.The NAPA COUNTY LOCAL FOOD ADVISORY COUNCIL advises the Agricultural Commission/Sealer of Weights regarding development and facilitation of sustainable local food system, and to provide a forum for public input regarding related issues. The Advisory Council assists Napa County staff in promoting local food production and consumption, in undertaking a review of County regulations to identify and address barriers and opportunities associated with local food production, distribution and access, and in recommending the Napa County Board of Supervisor’s Legislative Subcommittee needed changes in State law for incorporation into the County’s legislative platform. The Council will appoint one (1) member to this council.
The NAPA VALLEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (NVTA) strives to make life better for Napa County residents and visitors by improving streets, highways and bicycle and pedestrian pathways. NVTA also manages the Vine Transit system, which serves more than 1 million passengers annually. Help NVTA deliver on its mission by serving on the CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE. This 19-member group, which meets six times annually at NVTA’s office at the Soscol Gateway Transit Center in Napa, provides crucial feedback on how to make travel in and around the valley a better experience for all, specifically by providing valuable input on transportation planning studies and programs.
