The Mission of the Building Division is to protect the lives and safety of the citizens of Calistoga and contribute to the City's economic development. This is accomplished through implementation of Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical Codes. The Building Division also implements Engineering, Energy and Disabled Access regulations, and local and State laws for new construction.
Additionally, the Building Division reviews, approves and provides inspections for all new or remodeled structures, large and small, and relocation or change of ownership when persons apply for a Business License to assure they are built according to the California Building Stanards Codes and to ensure the safety and welfare of the community.
The Building Division also oversees plan check and inspection services for Mobile Home/Manufactured Home installation and accessory structures pursuant to Tile 25 of the California Code of Regulations, and conducts Mobile Home Park inspections as required by the state.
In response to Brad Cannon’s resignation as the Calistoga Buildling Official, effective June 15, 2010 and to coordinate departmental transition commencing June 7, 2010, provisions for Building Services for the City of Calistoga shall be provided by Clif Castle, Castle Consulting during the remainder of the month of June until such time we can solicit and evaluate building service proposals for Fiscal Year 2010-2011.
Below for your information are the Department’s new hours for Building Services effective June 7, 2010 based upon Clif Castle’s availability and the Public Work’s Department use of Clif as the part-time Inspector of Record for the Fire Station project.
In summary, Clif will be providing counter, plan check and inspection services in the mornings four (4 days) a week (8 am to Noon) for a total of 20 hours. During this timeframe, Clif will provide inspection services on Mondays and Wednesdays (9 am to noon) with office hours 8 am to 9 am, and will be available for office hours (counter and plan check service) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It should be further noted that the public will still be able to submit building permit applications throughout the week to the Department through the Administrative Secretary with exception of Friday afternoons in order to accommodate production and distribution of Planning Commission packets and other responsibilities of the Department.
